Akshay Kumar producing a Marathi film 72 Mail

Actor-producer Akshay Kumar’s quest for good stories and unique concepts is now taking him to Marathi plays. He has produced a film in the language.
“I like the sensibilities of Gujarati plays and I love Marathi plays also. I can speak Marathi fluently. I go and watch Marathi plays as well. I must say that they come up with very unusual subjects,” Akshay, who was born and brought up in the capital, said during a media interaction here Wednesday.
“I am producing a Marathi film. It is already completed. I am not acting in it. It’s called ’72 Mail’, (’72 Miles’),” he added.
Based on a novel by Ashok Vhatkar, “72 Mail” has been directed by Rajiv Patil, whose film “Jogwa” won the National Award in 2009. It is about the journey of a 13-year-old boy who walked from Satara to Kolhapur in Maharashtra in 1960.

The director has already picked a subject for his new film. His next project will be around a wild life topic, which is yet to be explored in Marathi cinema.
He has revealed the name of his upcoming film on a popular social networking site. And, the unique film name, Ajoba, has already generated great amount of curiosity in people’s mind.

Movie: Ajoba (2012)
Genre: Drama/True Story
Director: Sujay S. Dahake
Screen play: Gauri Bapat
Release Date: January 2013
Ajoba was the first wild cat to be collared with a GPS transmitter. For those who don’t know, the GPS technology helps researchers find out the geographic locations of animals living in jungles.
He was apparently transferred to a new habitat in order to minimize the excessive no. of leopards in National Park. The researchers used GPS tracker to track down the activities of this animal. Initially, they thought that he will just roam in the area and will behave like most of the other animals. But they were shocked, when he actually started traveling back to his previous home in Mumbai.
The animal, however, died in an unfortunate road accident before anyone could help him rescue from the troubled life.
Leopards are not venturing into our cities but we have encroached upon their territory,” said renowned Marathi film director Sujay Dahake as he discussed the plot for his new movie based on the true-life of a leopard nicknamed 'Ajoba' (Grandfather).

Inspiration from this movie came to Dahake after reports surfaced of the accidental death of the leopard in 2011.

Jabbar Patel's New Movie

Filmmaker Jabbar Patel's film Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar which came out in 2002 was highly appreciated by the audiences. The film starred talented actor Mammooty playing the role of Dr. Ambedkar. And now, Patel's next venture will be a film based on the life of the famous social reformist, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Phule was a social reformist during the pre-independence period who fought for various issues, more importantly, the rights of women in society. He also started the first ever girls school in India, in Maharashtra state along with his wife.

Jabbar Patel says that the casting and characterization for Phule is going to be difficult as only one old photograph of his is available in the records. The film will be mainstream but will also have his own style says Patel. He also plans to cast several big names in the film but does not want to reveal them now. Interestingly, The Government of Maharashtra has allotted his Rs. 2.5 crore to go make the film.
The film is set between 1827 and 1890 and Patel's research on the subject will hopefully be over by the end of October.
Once the research for the film is complete by the end of the year,
Patel will begin the scripting of the film. "The shooting will start
early next year. The budget will be less than that of Dr Babasaheb
Ambedkar, which was a Rs 90 million (Rs 9 crore) film," he adds.
