Jabbar Patel says that the casting and characterization for Phule is going to be difficult as only one old photograph of his is available in the records. The film will be mainstream but will also have his own style says Patel. He also plans to cast several big names in the film but does not want to reveal them now. Interestingly, The Government of Maharashtra has allotted his Rs. 2.5 crore to go make the film.
The film is set between 1827 and 1890 and Patel's research on the subject will hopefully be over by the end of October.
Once the research for the film is complete by the end of the year,
Patel will begin the scripting of the film. "The shooting will start
early next year. The budget will be less than that of Dr Babasaheb
Ambedkar, which was a Rs 90 million (Rs 9 crore) film," he adds.
